Mount Saint Mary's University offered its first Solemn High Mass according to the "extraordinary" form of the Latin liturgy for the first time since the 1960s in its university chapel on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, 8 December 2008. I had the blessing to serve as an acolyte at this Mass. Musicians and servers from Washington, DC area came to assist at the Mass, which was well attended by seminarians and lay students alike. The first two pictures were taken by me, and those from during the Mass were taken by an acquaintance (special thanks to him).

Msgr. Charles Pope, the celebrant; Fr. Paul Scalia, who served as deacon; and the priest who served as subdeacon (whose name escapes me) rehearse before Mass at the chapel's main altar.

"Que soy era Immaculada Councepcion."

Taken during the Introit, I believe.

The subdeacon is incensed as Msgr. Pope recites the Lavabo.

Msgr. Pope distributes Communion to the acolytes.

A view of the entire nave and sanctuary from the back of the church. It really is a beautiful place.
I had no idea the chapel at the Mount had been spared the "renovations" of the post Vatican 2 world. Nice!!!
ReplyDeleteSubdeacon looks like Fr. John Fritz, Diocese of Rockford, Ill., currently studying in DC. He frequently says TLM at Our Lady Queen of Poland in Silver Spring, MD
ReplyDeleteThe Subdeacon was Fr. John Fritz.
ReplyDeleteThe subdeacon appears to be Father Fritz -- don't know his first name. Originally from Iowa, he's with the Diocese of Rockford. Currently studying at CUA.
ReplyDeleteThe sub-deacon is Fr. John C. Fritz, a priest of the Diocese of Rockford (IL) and a graduate of MSM seminary (class of 2000).
ReplyDeleteThe subdeacon was Father John C. Fritz, a Rockford priest studying at CUA who graduated from Mount Saint Mary's in 2000. The homilist was Father Frederick L. Miller, a professor of systemic theology at the Mount.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's unanimous, then.
